First looks have been a growing trend over the years and this new wedding day activity is here to stay! You may have seen adorable videos on Tiktok, Instagram, or Youtube of couples seeing each other for the first time dressed in their wedding glam. And this is exactly what a first look is, being able to see your partner before the wedding ceremony. While this breaks from the long tradition of "it's bad luck to see the Bride before the ceremony", many couples are still opting in and committing to do a first look and here's why:
1. You get more time for couples portraits. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shot weddings where the family formals dipped into the couples portraits time leaving the couple with only 15 mins for their photos. So having a First Look guarantees that you will have at least 30-45mins for your couples portraits!
2. There’s less distractions when you have a first look. Since first looks occur before the ceremony, there will be less people/guests at the venue. Having less distractions allows me to fully take advantage of the time we have for your portraits.
3. A first look is a very intimate and romantic moment. You will have alone time with your partner before the ceremony. Some couples like to read their own vows while others like to exchange gifts. You can personalize your first look and truly make it special!Â
If this doesn't convince you, then maybe going the more traditional route works better for your wedding day vision. AND THAT'S TOTALLY FINE! When considering a first look, outline the pros and cons and get an idea of where you both stand. Once everything is laid out on the table, you will be able to make an informed decision. There is no need to rush your decision because First Looks are here to stay in the wedding industry!Â
